Navroz is known as the Persian New Year and commemorates the first day of Spring. It’s celebrated by many cultures around the world in many different ways. As an Ismaili Muslim, I celebrate it by going to my place of worship and partaking in rituals such as devotional poetry in the form of songs similar to hymns. We also wish each other “Navroz Mubarak” which allows us to wish blessings and prosperity unto one another. Navroz is also a time for renewing New Year’s resolutions so if you haven’t been keeping up with them, you have another fresh start!

Other cultures celebrate Navroz by having a table including seven items which start with the Farsi letter “S.” This could include dried foods, wheat, etc.. Each item symbolizes hopes, goals, and dreams for the new year such as good health, prosperity, happiness, patience, etc.

Navroz is really a chance for a fresh start and a new beginning filled with hope and inspiration. For those of us who were starting to get behind on our resolutions (such as going to the gym – GUILTY) can use this to make changes to our lives. We can even create new goals to achieve throughout the rest of the year.
Whether you celebrate Navroz or not, I wish you all Navroz Mubarak! I hope you achieve all your goals this year!
