It’s finally the weekend and you want to treat yourself. So, you go to the salon to get your nails done. You sit down in the chair and the manicurist works aways to give your nails back their shine. You scroll on your phone while one hand is getting pampered and then you switch. At the end of the manicure, your manicurist puts a couple drops of this strange oil on each of your nails. You think “Is this really helpful?” or “Does this really make a difference?” Well friends, I’m here to tell you that it actually does. That oil could be the difference from your manicure lasting 2 weeks or 2.5 weeks and could be the shield between smudging your nails as soon as you leave the salon. No, I’m not lying. Seriously, keep reading!
SO, WHAT IS CUTICLE OIL?
Before we answer this, let’s take one step back and ask the question WTF is a cuticle? A cuticle is that outer layer around your nail bed that protects your new nail from bacteria when it grows from the nail root. It’s actually one of the most important parts of your nail but sadly one of the most forgotten about. If you don’t take care of your cuticles, it can get infected. For example, I am 100% guilty of neglecting my cuticles and everytime I get my nails done, my cuticles bleed when the manicurist is pushing them back and cutting them. The bleeding doesn’t stop and my manicure looks terrible. Just like your lips, your cuticles can also become chapped, dry, and damaged from the cold air or even chlorine and the sun. Your manicure won’t be able to live up to its full potential.
HELP! HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY NAILS?
Enter cuticle oil. Cuticle oil is made up of different oils (jojoba, flaxseed, etc.) and special vitamins for nail health. It’s a moisturizing agent specifically for your nails. It can improve your overall nail health and keep your nails looking healthy and polished. Cuticle oil can also thicken your nails and prevent chips. Want your manicure to last longer? Religiously apply cuticle oil!
After all those bloody manicures, I decided to try out cuticle oil. Every night (3 nights a week), as part of my night time routine, I would apply the oil to my cuticles and let it soak in. The next morning I would see and feel a difference. My nail beds looked and felt overall more moisturized, truly. The next time I went to get a manicure, happy to report that I did not bleed all over my technician (dramatic, I know).
