This month, the Amazon Kindle is in the Sincerely Spotlight. You know when you own something and you put it somewhere and forget about it. Then, some time later, you come across it again and realize how much you loved it. I recently rediscovered my Kindle and have been using it almost every night to re-read my favorite books. I want to get back into reading and I did for a while last year but then I stopped. Damn you, Netflix!
But now that Friends has sadly left Netflix and I have practically binge watched everything else, there is nothing else that I want to watch at the moment. This is a great time to pull out my Kindle and download a new book. Throughout elementary school – high school, I was the biggest book worm. I used to go to the library and check out books by the dozen and stay up late at night reading. My favorite series was A Series of Unfortunate Events and The Sisters Grimm series. Those were the days. Getting a Kindle made my life much easier and I could just download books within seconds. I still sometimes prefer a hardcover book though – I’m still an old soul. Keep reading to find out why the Amazon Kindle is a traveler’s dream.

It can hold thousands of books in one tiny device.
This is amazing because there’s no need to carry tons of books in your backpack while traveling. It’s so easy and convenient to read and carry around. I love taking mine with me on my commute to work and reading it on the plane and right before I sleep.

The battery lasts forever.
I like to put my Kindle on airplane mode and the battery literally lasts for days without a charge. This is amazing for me because that’s one less thing I have to worry about charging. Seriously, I need a universal charger or something because the amount of wires I have in my backpack for my gazillion devices is insane.

Some Kindle models come with LTE so it can effortlessly download new books anywhere.
This is also a huge advantage. If I finish my book somewhere random and I don’t have wifi, I can just turn on LTE to download another book within seconds. I can browse the Amazon book store and take my time because the LTE is unlimited and makes my life much more convenient.

Kindle Functionality
- Bookmark – This feature is great because I can bookmark pages and add notes wherever I want and go back to it.
- Screen Control – This feature is AMAZING because I can brighten and dim the screen as much as I want. If I want to read under the covers in the dark, I totally can (wearing my blue light glasses of course). The screen also has no glass glare so it makes the reading experience much better.

- Highlight – This feature allows me to highlight all my favorite quotes and lines so I can have them all consolidated in one section. I can go back and look at them and write them down in my favorite quotes journal rather than stopping in the middle of the book to do so.
- Dictionary – I can highlight a word and look it up on the spot as I’m reading to get a better understanding. Game. Changer.
- Kindle to Kindle sharing: If you know someone else who owns a Kindle, you can borrow their books and have them downloaded directly to your kindle rather than buying a new copy.
- OneDrive: If you have a library card, you can check out books from your library’s online website and download them directly to your kindle. If you need more reading time, you can renew them just like a regular library book!
There are so many more features on the Kindle. Font change, text size customization, the possibilities are endless! The newer models have Audible where you can even listen to books compared to reading them if you prefer that.
I personally think everyone who loves reading should own a Kindle. It really is a great way to read a ton of books potentially for free (seriously the OneDrive library feature is a cost-saver). I hope you found this helpful! Let me know your favorite book in the comments below – mine is Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare (actually anything she writes is my favorite). Happy reading!
