This past week I had the opportunity to go to the High Museum of Art and see the stunning Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors exhibit. It was absolutely amazing! People camped outside the museum in the COLD trying to get tickets! Miraculously, one of my roommates bought 3 tickets from her friend and we saw the exhibit before it left Atlanta. Honestly, blessed.
What is it?
The Infinity Mirrors exhibit is an absolute art bucket list exhibit created by the one and only, Yayoi Kusama. She’s known as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. One of her signature keys is to use mirrors to display an almost endless experience. Because this exhibit is so popular, groups of 3 only get 20-30 seconds in each room. It feels like Disney World – single rider line included.
Each room isn’t even really a room – it’s a small cube. You walk up to it and the employee opens the door and there is a very small ledge you can walk on. As soon as you’re in, the employee closes the door and there’s a mirror behind it so it seems as if the room goes on forever. Truly, an amazing experience. You can take pictures in each room (except for one). But, you better have your Snapchat, Instagram, Canon, Nikon, etc. locked and loaded. It’s a one shot deal. You can go into each room more than once but you need to be willing to stand in the long lines.
ROOM 1: PHALLI’S FIELD
This room was the first room we went to and it was our “test-run” on the pictures front. We made a picture plan before we entered the room because we only had 20 seconds. The mirror behind me is actually the door!
ROOM 2: AFTERMATH OF OBLITERATION OF ETERNITY
This room was actually my favorite. It was stunning. This photo doesn’t even do it justice. I felt like I was in Tangled and the lanterns were lighting up the sky – you know what scene I’m talking about.
ROOM 3: ALL THE ETERNAL LOVE I HAVE FOR PUMPKINS
This was the room in which I wasn’t allowed to take photos but it was still a super cool room. There were pumpkins with polka dots all around and they were reflected in the ceilings too! If you want to see a photo of this room, check it out here.
ROOM 4: LOVE TRANSFORMED INTO DOTS
This room was also one of my favorites! Kusama loves her polka dots. This room featured hanging polka dotted balloons (which we weren’t allowed to touch but my roommate did anyway – hi Farah). Again, the mirrors gave it an endless appearance and it was awesome.
ROOM 5: LOVE FOREVER
This room was so impressive! I stood on a ledge and looked into a square peephole and all these beautiful lights were flashing. The cool part about this room was that I could see my face reflected throughout on small mirrors.
ROOM 6: THE SOULS OF MILLIONS OF LIGHT YEARS AWAY
Last but not least – one my favorites. Apparently, this was everyone’s favorite room because the line was ridiculously long! But clearly, well worth the wait. This room made me feel like I was in space and all the lights were twinkling stars. I wish I had more time in this room because 30 seconds was not enough!

In conclusion…
After going to all the beautiful rooms, I was escorted to the exit where there was a colorful polka-dotted room. It was completely white before this exhibit opened in Atlanta. IMAGINE. As I left, I was given a few polka dots and told to put them anywhere on the walls. It was super cool! A great ending to an amazing exhibit.
If you ever have the chance to go the Infinity Mirrors exhibit, GO – it’s fantastic! Let me know in the comments below what was your favorite room (mine was the one with the pretty lanterns)!
