“I’m bored, what should we do?”
“Let’s watch a movie!”
“Uhh, which movie?”
“A romantic comedy!”
“There’s so many! Plus, how do we know if it’s even a good movie? Which one do we choose?”
How many times have you had that conversation with your friends? For me, it’s literally almost once a week! Today, I’m going to break down my favorite 11 romantic comedies that are guaranteed to put you in the feels. Always. I like to consider myself a movie expert (in Hollywood & Bollywood duh) because I love to watch movies! Romantic comedies are one of my favorite genres. I always find myself searching for a new rom-com and it gets more and more difficult because I’ve seen so many. This is why I have put together a list of my favorites! So, get in your pajamas, grab your popcorn, your blanket, and get cozy because here it is!
1. Love, Rosie
This movie has to be number one. It’s my favorite and so underrated. Lily Collins is an amazing actress (also highkey she’s #browgoals). Her and Sam Claflin play Rosie and Alex, two best friends who take different paths in life and find their way to each other in the end. It’s all about timing and man, this movie really just tugs at your heartstrings. The book is even better and I was sobbing at the end.
(Also it’s on Netflix!)
2. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
This movie stars the stunning Kate Hudson and the very cute Matthew McConaughey. That should be enough to get you to watch the movie! Kate Hudson’s character, Andie, is an advice columnist who decides to write a piece about “How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days.” She needs a man to use an experiment for her article because it needs to be real and she finds Ben, aka Matthew McConaughey. He has a whole other agenda about having a woman fall IN love with him in 10 days. Their plans start to clash which leads to a lot of comedy and eventually love. So cute.
3. Crazy, Stupid, Love
Two words: Ryan. Gosling. SWOON. This movie also stars Emma Stone, Julianne Moore, and Steve Carrell (hello, The Office!). It’s about how Steve Carrell’s character, Cal, is married to Julianne Moore’s character, Emily. Everything was going fine until Cal learns that Emily wants a divorce and cheated on him. Then enters the one and only Jacob (Ryan Gosling) who mentors him in the dating world. This movie features two love stories and is filled with hilarious moments, sad moments, and of course romantic moments. This movie has it all.
4. Leap Year
Another underrated movie. This movie stars Amy Adams who plays Anna. Anna has been dating her boyfriend for a long time and another Valentine’s Day has gone by with no proposal. She decides to take matters into her own hand and follow a tradition about how a woman can propose on February 29th and follows her boyfriend to Ireland. Along the way, she gets lost and meets an Irishman who changes the whole story. This movie also shows the beauty of Ireland which adds to the romance. A cute and feel-good movie that just puts you in a great mood.
5. Definitely, Maybe
Two more words: Ryan. Reynolds. 😉
Ryan Reynolds plays a dad named Will who is currently going through a divorce. His daughter asks him about his life before he got married and how he met her mother. He decides to tell her the story. BUT, he tells it in a way in which he talks about three women who he was with and changes their names. She has to guess which one is her mother. It’s the sweetest story.
6. 27 Dresses
Have you ever heard the saying “Always a bridesmaid never the bride”? That’s basically what this movie is about. Katherine Heigl’s character, Jane, is always the bridesmaid at her friends’ weddings and puts their needs over her own. She’s been a bridesmaid 27 times! But, when her sister, Tess, is about to marry the man of Jane’s dream (RUDE), she starts to question whether its time to stop obsessing over weddings and focus on love. Jane’s character just grows throughout the movie and learns to say “No” and stand up for what she wants. It’s endearing.
7. Sydney White
I just watched this movie with my roommates the other day! I would classify this as more of a girls’ night movie but it could also be a romantic comedy. It plays on the whole Snow White and the Seven Dwarves story. Sydney White is a girl who goes to college and wants to join her mom’s sorority to feel closer to her. She doesn’t fit in because the girls are really pretentious and mean. Sydney finds her place with seven “misfits” who live in a house on Greek row. Along the way, Sydney meets a really cute boy who she ends up liking a lot and she ends up changes the Greek system for the benefit of the college. It’s a really cute story and I don’t know about you, but I was left smiling at the end.
8. Little Italy
This movie is a hidden gem (find it on Amazon Prime). Nikki (Emma Roberts) and Leo’s families own a thriving pizza shop together. They are all super close and Nikki and Leo have been childhood friends. When a rift is created between both families, they each open up a rival pizza shop and Nikki goes abroad to pursue cooking. When she returns, her and Leo start to realize that they like each other but their families are rivals which create problems (talk about the Romeo and Juliet of pizza). It’s such a sweet, family-orientated movie that features a ton of pizza. One thing is for sure, you will 100% want pizza after watching this movie.
9. Enchanted
This movie is one of my absolute favorites. I could watch it all the time. It’s so sweet and I’m a sucker for fairytales! This move features Amy Adams as Giselle, a girl who was going to marry her Prince Charming in an animated world and is sucked into a vortex which brings her to the real world. She is lost and confused in New York and runs into Robert (played by Patrick Dempsey aka McDreamy) and he helps her out. Giselle attempting to adjust to life in NY is quite hilarious. Isla Fisher is an amazing actress and one can’t help but laugh out loud during this movie. BONUS: it also has an amazing soundtrack!
10. When in Rome
This movie stars the beautiful Kristen Bell who plays the character Beth who is very unlucky when it comes to romance. She travels to Rome and steals some coins from the fountain of love and triggers a curse. It is said that whoever steals coins out of the fountain, the person who threw the coin will fall in love with the person who took the coin. She goes back to New York and is immediately ambushed by all the men whose coins she took claiming they are in love with her. This then takes a very comedic turn and well, you need to keep watching to find out what happens in the end!
11. Crazy Rich Asians
This movie took the world by storm when it released just last year. I watched it three times (YUP) in theaters because it was THAT GOOD. This movie follows Rachel Chu who goes to Singapore with her boyfriend (Nick Young) to his friend’s wedding. There she learns that her boyfriend is actually super wealthy and every girl is vying to be the next Ms. Young. She has to deal with interesting relatives, crazy family drama, and trying to impress Nick’s family. This movie is based on a book (which is even better than the movie)! The casting was impeccable and each actor/actress portrays his or her character in an exceptional way (Gemma Chan is my favorite as Astrid). You will laugh, you will cry, and you will most definitely feel the love.
These are my favorite Rom-Coms and I hope you like them as much as I do! Let me know your favorites in the comments below – I’m always looking for new ones.
