This season, I decided to do a very fun and basic fall activity – apple picking! I have been seeing people go to the Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard about an hour out of New York City so I wanted to go too. I dragged my boyfriend with me and we drove up but it turns out that everyone in the world also wanted to go to the orchard which meant TRAFFIC. Eventually we were redirected to another farm (Outhouse Orchards) because Harvest Moon’s parking lot was full. Funny story – neither of us brought enough cash so we barely made the $10 parking fee ($9.75 to be exact) and we were out of cash by then (pro tip: bring cash)! The weather was absolutely beautiful and the colors were just starting to change. The drive up there was amazing and the scenery was perfect.
Living in Atlanta for four years, I have been spoiled by the greenery. Fall time at Emory was always my favorite. Moving to New York, I was afraid of just being surrounded by gray buildings. The drive up to the farm completely changed that.
So many families were out and about enjoying the beautiful weather. There was even a sunflower field and a pumpkin patch (hello photos)! We bought an apple bag ($25 – lol) and ventured out into the apple field. I of course have no jump shot and I was not tall enough to reach the apples in the tree so it was a bit of a struggle for me. It was way easier for my boyfriend who got 95% of the 46 apples we picked. I had fun anyways watching him have fun picking all the apples.
If you can, I would recommend taking your friends and family to a nearby orchard to go apple picking and enjoy the fall colors before the temperature drops and winter arrives. It truly is an autumn classic!
